BangladeshBangladesh participated, along with other educators and nutritionists from India, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines and Sri Lanka, in the Inter-Country Workshop on "Feeding Minds Fighting Hunger (FMFH)'' organized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), through its Associated School Project Network (ASPnet). The workshop was held at the National Institute of Nutrition, in Hyderabad, India, between 27-29 August 2002. The aim of the workshop was to evaluate the relevance, appropriateness and usefulness of the FMFH materials for Asian countries, examine ways to introduce and promote the FMFH lessons into schools and curricula in each of the participating countries, and to develop proposals for World Food Day activities based on FMFH issues. Each of the participating countries developed a plan of action for implementing the FMFH initiative. In order to promote FMFH in Bangladesh, it has been suggested that a national committee for FMFH be formed, that the materials be translated and adapted to local circumstances, and that training programmes be carried out for selected school teachers. |
