Sri LankaParticipants from Sri Lanka attended, along with educators and nutritionists from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Nepal and the Philippines, the Inter-Country Workshop on "Feeding Minds Fighting Hunger (FMFH)'' organized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), through its Associated School Project Network (ASPnet). The workshop was held in Hyderabad, India at the National Institute of Nutrition between 27-29 August, 2002. The aim of the workshop was to evaluate the relevance, appropriateness and usefulness of the FMFH materials for Asian countries, examine ways to introduce and promote the FMFH lessons into schools and curricula in each of the participating countries, and to develop proposals for World Food Day activities based on FMFH issues. Each of the participating countries developed a plan of action for implementing the FMFH initiative. Activities suggested to encourage the use of the FMFH lessons and materials in Sri Lanka included: forming a national FMFH committee; translating the materials into the national language; increasing the awareness and observance of World Food Day (16 October); organizing essay and poster contests. |
