NepalNepal participated, along with other educators and nutritionists from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Philippines and Sri Lanka, in the Inter-Country Workshop on "Feeding Minds Fighting Hunger (FMFH)'' organized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), through its Associated School Project Network (ASPnet). The workshop was held in Hyderabad, India at the National Institute of Nutrition between 27-29 August, 2002. The aim of the workshop was to evaluate the relevance, appropriateness and usefulness of the FMFH materials for Asian countries, examine ways to introduce and promote the FMFH lessons into schools and curricula in each of the participating countries, and to develop proposals for World Food Day activities based on FMFH issues. Each of the participating countries developed a plan of action for implementing the FMFH initiative. In order to promote FMFH in Nepal, a number of initiatives have been suggested, including: forming a national committee for FMFH, translating the materials into Nepali, selecting schools for initial implementation; sensitizing national authorities and the media; organizing teacher training workshops; enhancing awareness and annual observance of the World Food Day (16 October). |
